MARUGAME SEIMEN's handmade, freshly prepared food experience service won the Award of Excellence at the 3rd Nihon Service Award hosted by Service Productivity & Innovation for Growth (SPRING) of the Japan Productivity Center.
<Details of the award>
Name of service: MARUGAME SEIMEN defies the conventional wisdom of chain stores with its handmade, freshly prepared food experience
<Points that received special praise>
(1) MARUGAME SEIMEN is the first large-scale chain store to provide customers with freshly made udon noodles in its restaurants. With the advantage of not having a central kitchen, the company has opened more than 200 restaurants overseas.
(2) The company does not rely on manuals, but emphasizes that employees themselves think about how to make customers happy and act accordingly. As a result, the company has been highly rated in the Japanese Customer Satisfaction Index (JCSI) Survey (food and beverage industry) for the past nine years.
(3) In areas where MARUGAME SEIMEN restaurants are located, the company promotes the hiring of older workers, thereby contributing to employment. The number of employees over the age of 60 is 2,249 (as of March 2020).
TORIDOLL Holdings received a Bronze rating in the PRIDE Index 2020, an evaluation index for initiatives concerning LGBTQ* and other sexual minorities in the workplace established by work with Pride, a Japanese voluntary organization.
We received this award for, among other things, formulating a diversity policy, communicating it both internally and externally, conducting training, and establishing a consultation service.
In order to promote diversity and inclusion, TORIDOLL Group will continue to develop a work environment that allows employees to express their individuality while understanding and respecting each other, as well as conduct educational activities both inside and outside the company, with the aim of further enhancing corporate value.
On May 31, 2021, TORIDOLL Holdings received a "Superior Efforts in Disaster Preparedness and Business Continuity" rating from the Development Bank of Japan (DBJ) under the DBJ BCM Rated Loan Program.
The DBJ BCM Rated Loan Program is the world's first loan program that introduces the specialized method of "BCM Rating", which uses a proprietary evaluation system developed by DBJ to evaluate and select companies with outstanding efforts in disaster preparedness and business continuity, and sets loan conditions according to the evaluation.
TORIDOLL Holdings is promoting disaster preparedness and business continuity initiatives in order to minimize potential damage, ensure the safety of employees and customers, enhance business continuity, and contribute to the creation of a sustainable society in the midst of diversifying risks in the corporate environment, including natural disasters.
MARUGAME SEIMEN was awarded the top Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize in the Energy Conservation Case Studies category of the 2019 Energy Conservation Grand Prize awards, hosted by The Energy Conversation Center, Japan, announced in December 2019.
This is the first time a business in the restaurant industry has received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize.
Based on guidelines published by the Ministry of the Environment in March 2020, TORIDOLL Holdings has acquired EcoAction 21 Certification for some Marugame Seimen stores and the head office.
To achieve this, we have formulated goals to halve our food waste and emissions volumes by fiscal year 2025, and to improve our food recycling rate; we report on these initiatives every year in the Environmental Management Report.
Going forward, we will continue working to increase the number of certified restaurants.
In July 2020, "Food Recycling Loop", which is being promoted by TORIDOLL Holdings in collaboration with four other restaurant companies (Seven & i Food Systems Co., Ltd., Matsuya Foods Co., Ltd., Ringer Hut Japan Co., Ltd., Watami Co., Ltd.) received the "Recycling Business Plan" certification under the Food Recycling Law by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Minister of the Environment and Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare. This is the first certification of such reward to a restaurant operator.
Through this initiative, we have built a “food recycling loop”. First of all, food recycling resources such as cooking residues at a total of 38 stores operated by five restaurant operators in Nagoya City, Aichi will be converted into feed by a recycling company. Next, the feed is used at the poultry farm, and the chicken eggs produced are purchased by the restaurants, processed into products, and provided to customers.
We will strive to expand the number of stores and businesses that participate in this food recycling loop, and by implementing similar efforts in new areas, we will promote the recycling of food resources and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
